I am already generating green power -
how do I earn income from the ROCs?

ROCs are trading at a price approximately three times that of the basic electricity when traded at market rates

What are ROCs?

If you are a generator of green energy (ask us for a definition of what is admissible as “green energy”) but are using the energy yourself rather than selling it then you could earn significant revenues. By entering into an agreement with our affiliated energy Consolidation and Trading company you would sell all of your production to the consolidator. The consolidator will then sell all of this energy back to you at the same price, so you see no net change in the short term.

What is more, if the price is arbitrarily set at £6 / MWh this makes the cost of the energy less than fossil fuels such as natural gas and diesel and you then have an incentive to use this generated energy for such things as heating, where market rate electricity would not be commercially viable. It is important that all of the power is consumed, so that you sell your entire production. This maximises the ROC production.

If the energy is used for applications such as water heating (for central heating) then this gives a good and consistent “sink” for relatively large amounts of power output. Additionally the thermal inertia of the system takes up the variation in output from your generating system (for example in the case of a wind turbine) and the legacy fossil-fuel based source can act as a backup.

Because you sell all of your electricity you will be able to claim the ROCs from Ofgem. At the next NFPA auction the our Consolidation and Trading business will trade your ROCs on the market and take a small commission for doing so, you get the balance. ROCs are trading at a price approximately three times that of the basic electricity when traded at market rates.
